You may also find helpful information in John Gross' book on the Rise and Fall of the Man of Letters and his history of TLS (or maybe it's The Modern Movement I'm thinking of?) that puts her pay in context. At one point, she was paid twice the rate of ordinary contributors, a fact I believe I learned from Gross,
