Flamenco I

2 credit hours

Sullivant Hall 290 (in-person)

9:30am-11:00am Tuesday and Thursday

 Instructor: Amy Schofield, MFA (schofield.80 at osu.edu)


This course is an open-level flamenco dance class suitable for all levels. No previous experience is required. We will engage with both movement practice and flamenco history and theory, learning about this Spanish percussive dance form within its cultural context and as it exists in the diaspora to investigate its multi-cultural origins, problematize issues of gender and race, and explore how contemporary flamenco practices are making waves in the field.

Note: Flamenco shoes or boots will be required for class. Suitable temporary alternatives include character shoes, tap shoes, hard soled oxfords, or other shoes that securely attach to the feet and have a low, thick heel.
