Subject: [Gamhaa] Leadership Call: GAMHAA (Graduate Association of Mental Health Action and Advocacy)
To: gamhaa at lists.osu.edu<mailto:gamhaa at lists.osu.edu> <gamhaa at lists.osu.edu<mailto:gamhaa at lists.osu.edu>>, dsosu at lists.osu.edu<mailto:dsosu at lists.osu.edu> <dsosu at lists.osu.edu<mailto:dsosu at lists.osu.edu>>

Hello! I am writing on behalf of the Graduate Association of Mental Health Action and Advocacy, a graduate student organization. Our leadership team is ending our tenure and preparing for the job market; we need new members to take on these roles. It is time to pass the torch to new leadership. In this email we outline (1) what GAMHAA is and what we do, (2) what positions are available, and (3) why being on leadership is a worthwhile opportunity, (4) how to apply! Please share widely.

(1) What is GAMHAA?

Our official website is: http://org.osu.edu/gamhaa/

Our Purpose Statement: The Graduate Association of Mental Health Action and Advocacy (GAMHAA), founded in 2017, is organized for the purpose of advocating for the needs of OSU graduate students' mental health and wellness. The association provides the opportunity for students to join together to make the university a healthier, more egalitarian place by spreading awareness, sharing resources, enacting anti-stigma initiatives, pairing with community organizations, and advocating for positive grassroots change in the way graduate study is conducted at OSU.

Our advisor is Dr. Margaret Price, Director of the Disability Studies Program.

(2) Positions Overview

The following positions are open: President, Vice President*, Secretary, and Treasurer. All leadership positions hold the following responsibilities:

• Keep communication open between leadership and with general members.

• Attend leadership meetings to offer input on and vote on ideas, projects, and actions.

• Cooperate with other leadership members to organize, coordinate, and guide organization initiatives.

• Communicate upcoming events, opportunities, and more with general members.

In addition to these responsibilities, each position has the following unique roles and responsibilities:

President/Vice President*

  * Develop the group mission statement.
  *   Register new members.
  *   Manage the listserv.

*VP is an optional role

Secretary

  *   Document meeting topics.
  * Keep a record of organizational materials.

Treasurer

  *   Manage group finances.
  * Write up and submit funding requests.

(3) Why Be on Leadership

We will be frank and to the point. Here are three major benefits of being in leadership:

  1. Supporting your career goals. This is a great opportunity to tailor your CV or fill any gaps as you prepare for the (near or future) job market.
  2. Getting involved in Disability Studies (DS). If you are interested in DS, this is a great way to get plugged in. No background in DS is required.
  3. Pursuing your interests. GAMHAA has taken many shapes over the years based on each leadership team’s interests. We have brought speakers to talk about topics like going on the job market as a scholar who identifies as disabled, we have created OSU’s first Quiet Room, we have been guest speakers at several events, and more.

(4) How to Apply

If you are interested at all, APPLY! GAMHAA is uniquely set up so that it is malleable to your goals and (just as importantly) your energy. The current leadership team (Melissa Guadrón, Addison Koneval, and Jamie Utphall) has plans to train and support the new leadership team.

If you are interested in one or more positions, fill out THIS QUALTRICS FORM<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/osu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6AmxN63c2rPPXv0__;!!KGKeukY!xaiLLBbuz1_xOdngQEE21EdmBxbw4jkNKJi-EWwgHRvz2rO2olco7cqx6CpmeTaWfkZCF_yRRUgyW-UVpmgiKg$>. The same form is used for both of our sister groups—GAMHAA and DSGSA. These positions are open to ALL graduate students from ALL disciplines. The survey asks for:

  1. Your name + (optionally) your pronouns.
  2.  Your OSU email.
  3. Which group you are interested in (GAMHAA and/or DSGSA).
  4. Which position(s) you are interested in.
  5. One short paragraph explaining your interest & goals with the position(s).

Please fill out the form<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/osu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6AmxN63c2rPPXv0__;!!KGKeukY!xaiLLBbuz1_xOdngQEE21EdmBxbw4jkNKJi-EWwgHRvz2rO2olco7cqx6CpmeTaWfkZCF_yRRUgyW-UVpmgiKg$> by Monday, May 9th at 11:59 pm ET.

GAMHAA and/or DSGSA will contact all interested parties. Based on the number of applicants, we will either offer positions outright or hold elections.
