From the program description:<br>
<p style="margin-left:40px">NUE in Engineering emphasizes new approaches to undergraduate
engineering education through interdisciplinary collaborations. These
collaborations could lead to, but are not limited to:</p><div style="margin-left:40px">
</div><ul style="margin-left:40px"><li>A freshman course introducing the basic phenomena and processes at
the nanoscale, the unifying principle of matter at the nanoscale,
connections to other disciplines, and application areas of societal
relevance;</li><li>New examples of undergraduate nanoscale engineering courses that are
presented through the development of laboratory and demonstration
experiments, manuals and other written materials, software, and
web-based resources;</li><li>Development and dissemination of new teaching modules for nanoscale
engineering of relevance to engineering education that can be used in
existing undergraduate courses;</li><li>Incorporation of undergraduate research opportunities in nanoscale engineering into the curriculum at any level; and</li><li>Development of courses or curricular enhancements related to

Proposals are due May 22, 2013.<br><br><b>3) NSF Broadening Participation Research Initiation Grants in Engineering (BRIGE):</b> NSF has released a revised solicitation for its BRIGE program (<a href="http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=503160">http://www.nsf.gov/funding/pgm_summ.jsp?pims_id=503160</a>). From the program synopsis:<br>
<br><div style="margin-left:40px">The Broadening Participation Research Initiation Grants in Engineering (BRIGE) solicitation is designed to promote the development of early career faculty who will become champions for diversity and broadening participation of underrepresented groups in engineering throughout their careers. BRIGE awards will enable early career faculty to integrate effective diversity and broadening participation strategies in their engineering research, education, and innovation activities.<br>
<br>Throughout this solicitation, the term underrepresented groups will refer to and include the following: women, persons with disabilities, and ethnic/racial groups that are in the minority in engineering, which include African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaska Natives, and Native Pacific Islanders.<br>

Proposals are due April 29, 2013.<br><br><b>4) NIH Team-Based Design in Biomedical Engineering Education</b> (R25): The National Institutes of Health have reissued the announcement for the Team-Based Design in Biomedical Engineering Education program (<a href="http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-13-111.html">http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-13-111.html</a>). From the funding opportunity purpose:<br>
<br><div style="margin-left:40px">This FOA, issued by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), encourages applications from institutions that propose to establish new or to enhance existing team-based design courses in undergraduate Biomedical Engineering departments or programs. This FOA targets undergraduate students at the senior level but may also include junior undergraduates and first-year graduate students. Courses that address innovative and/or ground-breaking development, multidisciplinary/interdisciplinary training and clincial immersion are especially encouraged.<br>
</div><br>Direct costs of up to $20,000 per year may be requested, for up to five years. Programs that include a clinical immersion program outside the academic year may request an additional $20,000 to cover participant stipends. Proposals are due May 13, 2013.<br>

<br><div style="margin-left:40px">The purpose of the NIH Summer Research Experience Program (referred to as the “Summer Research Program”) is to provide a high quality research experience for high school and college students and for science teachers during the summer academic break. The NIH expects that such programs will: help attract young students to careers in science; provide opportunities for college students to gain valuable research experience to help prepare them for graduate school; and enhance the skills of science teachers and enable them to more effectively communicate the nature of the scientific process to their students. The programs would also contribute to enhancing overall science literacy. Summer Research Programs that expand and complement existing summer educational and training programs are encouraged.<br>
