<b>1) NASA International Space Station National Lab Education Project (ISS NLEP):</b> The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has released an announcement for its ISS NLEP program (<a href="http://bit.ly/zQxHrI">http://bit.ly/zQxHrI</a>). Types of proposals are grouped into two areas:<br>
<br><div style="margin-left:40px">"General" areas:<br>1) new ground-based educational activities/experiments not requiring ISS upmass<br>2) new flight-based or on-orbit experiments that require ISS upmass capability<br>
3) new educational experiments utilizing a facility that simulates the ISS microgravity environment. <br><br>“Specific” areas: <br>1) flight experiments that can be conducted in “1 unit” (1U) NanoRacks payload modules onboard the ISS; <br>
2) mission planning proposals to recommend an appropriate mission planning support for the Amateur Radio on ISS (ARISS) school contacts program using appropriate software and hardware; <br>3) proposals to provide engineering/project management support for the High Schools United with NASA for the Creation of Hardware (HUNCH) project; and <br>
4) proposals will be solicited to develop new applications for the ISSLive! Internet educational experience using existing real-time ISS telemetry.<br></div><br>NASA has $850,000 to fund up to 4 "General" area awards for 12 months and $350,000 to fund up to 4 "Specific" area awards for 12 months. Depending on where you look, letters of intent are due either February 17 (in the solicitation) or March 5 (on the website), and full proposals are due March 23.<br>

<br><b>3) DHS Career Development Grant (CDG):</b> The Department of Homeland Security has released a modified announcement for its CDG program (<a href="http://www.grants.gov/search/search.do?mode=VIEW&oppId=138893">http://www.grants.gov/search/search.do?mode=VIEW&oppId=138893</a>). From the program synopsis:<br>
<br><div style="margin-left:40px">The CDG program enables U.S. accredited four-year colleges and universities with existing and/or proposed programs in homeland security-related science, technology, engineering or mathematics to award undergraduate scholarships and/or graduate fellowships to qualified students who intend to pursue homeland security scientific, technology, engineering, or mathematics careers. Note: HS-STEM curricula are homeland security specific programs of study or concentrations within existing and/or proposed science, technology, engineering, or mathematics programs. These curricula may lead to majors, minors, certificates, or recognized concentrations in HS-STEM. DHS will support only those homeland security programs that are based on existing and/or proposed accredited science, technology, engineering, or mathematics curricula.<br>
</div><br>Proposals to fund undergraduate scholarships may request up to $200,000 over 3 years, while proposals to fund graduate fellowships may request up to $500,000 over 5 years. Proposals are due March 22.<br><br><b>4) ARO High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP) and Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP):</b> The Army Research Office has released a revised HSAP and URAP announcement (<a href="http://www.arl.army.mil/www/default.cfm?page=8">http://www.arl.army.mil/www/default.cfm?page=8</a>). From the announcement:<br>
<br><div style="margin-left:40px">The Army Research Office (ARO) intends to conduct the High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP) and Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP) for another year. HSAP/URAP will fund the science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) apprenticeship of promising high school juniors, seniors, and undergraduate college students to work in a university structured research environment under the direction of existing ARO-sponsored principal investigators (PI) serving as mentors. Awards will be made as add-ons to existing single-investigator grants, Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) grants, and University Affiliated Research Centers (UARCs) that have at least 12 months’ period of performance remaining from the date of proposal submission.<br>
