<b>1) US EPA Environmental Education Sub-Grants:</b> The EPA has announced its second round of Environmental Education Sub-Grants (<a href="http://www.epa.gov/education/grants.html">http://www.epa.gov/education/grants.html</a>). From the RFP:<br>
<br><div style="margin-left: 40px;">EPA expects to provide financial support...for the development and implementation of innovative projects whose primary focus is to make and manage sub-awards to organizations, other than their own, to design, demonstrate, and/or disseminate environmental education practices, methods, and/or techniques as described in this RFP. Proposals should provide information about how they will make sub-awards that educate diverse populations on environmental issues that especially affect their local communities, including but not limited to minority, low income and tribal communities.<br>
<br>The amount available for each successful applicant under this program is approximately $150,000. Each regional recipient will be required to use exactly $92,273.50 of this amount for a minimum of 19 sub-awards of up to $5,000 each to entities that would qualify as “eligible applicants” as defined in Section III(A). <br>

of EPA’s ten Regions. There is a required 25% cost share. Applications are due November 8. Informational conference calls are scheduled for Sept. 22 (3:30pm), Sept. 27 (2:00pm), and Sept. 30 (12.00pm)<br><br><b>2) NASA Supplemental Education Awards for ROSES Investigators:</b> PIs of current research awards from NASA's Research Opportunities in Space and Earth Sciences (ROSES) program are eligible to apply to supplemental funding for education projects (<a href="http://nspires.nasaprs.com/external/solicitations/summary.do?method=init&solId={452470B9-EE8D-B52F-F041-9C661793EC33}&path=open">http://nspires.nasaprs.com/external/solicitations/summary.do?method=init&solId={452470B9-EE8D-B52F-F041-9C661793EC33}&path=open</a>). From the solicitation:<br>
<br><div style="margin-left: 40px;">Efforts promoting participation of underrepresented groups in Earth and space science studies at all levels of education and strengthening such learning in minority serving institutions are encouraged. Of particular interest are efforts that provide K-12 and community college educators with research-intensive experiences on NASA Earth or Space Science projects. A supplemental project activity may not include student research support at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels – such support is either already a part of the parent research award or is available through other competitive opportunities.<br>
<br>The scope of supplemental Education awards includes all aspects of elementary/secondary and informal education and limited aspects of higher education. A higher education project activity may address undergraduate programs to enhance the science literacy of nonscientists and future K-12 teachers; increase the participation of minorities and other underutilized groups (e.g., women) in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; or offer expanded opportunities for engagement of undergraduates in group projects that model SMD mission experiences in the application of scientific, engineering, or technical expertise.<br>
