The Linguistics Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara seeks to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Linguistics of African America. The appointment is anticipated to begin July 1, 2019; an earlier start date may also be possible. The
position is renewable for a second year contingent on satisfactory performance.</font></span>

any of the linguistic varieties of Africa and the diaspora that are used within the United States and/or elsewhere in the Americas. </span><br class="">

and students in one or more core areas of our department, including sociocultural linguistics, linguistic structure, phonetics and phonology, quantitative approaches, and/or language documentation and revitalization.</span></font></div>

to the department’s majors in Linguistics and in Language, Culture, and Society. A strong desideratum is a commitment to the academic mentoring of African American undergraduate and graduate students as well as students from other groups underrepresented within
linguistics and the academy generally. than the dissertation (or equivalent). A Ph.D. in linguistics or a related field is required by the time of appointment. Related fields that will be considered include but are not limited to anthropology, English, education, and speech and hearing sciences.
