Thank you all so much again for your thoughts, prayers and good vibes that helped Julie throughout this journey. A Celebration of Life will be held at The Gahanna Sanctuary, 82 N. High Street, Gahanna, OH on Sunday, August 28, 2022 from 2:00-5:00 pm for all family, friends and co-workers. Julie loved her fur babies as well as all animals. No words can express this loss, but I am comforted to know that Julie has been at peace with her decision to move into Hospice care and that she was finally in no pain the past several days. I can?t say enough about Hospice/palliative care and their ability to focus on the comfort of the patient. Julie?s sisters have been by her side for many weeks as well as her very dear friend, Brandi plus the countless cards, texts, CaringBridge posts from so many of you let Julie know how much she is loved. Unfortunately, Julie probably wasn?t aware of the impact that she made on those she encountered along her way, always with a big smile, kind word, and a happy heart. We have lost a loving, dear friend, but God has gained an amazing angel! As Dr. Tracy Kitchel stated in his message to his staff,? We don?t have any other details, but I?m certain the family would appreciate any positive thoughts or prayers you?re willing to share in their direction.? I will share details once plans are finalized for a memorial service/celebration of life to be held in the coming weeks. All I can say is to remember to hug your loved ones tight and ?make today amazing?! Teresa . Teresa S. Fast-forwarding to this week?there?s no easy way to tell you this, but Julie was discharged from The James Cancer hospital yesterday and went to her home under Hospice Care. As heart-breaking as this news is, Julie is at peace with her decision, and I hope that you take comfort in knowing this. In true Julie fashion, she?s doing this ?her way?. Julie welcomes cards and messages on her CaringBridge site: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/juliestrawser and/or send cards to: Julie Strawser Berkley House, Unit #435 5300 Riverside Drive Upper Arlington, OH 43220 I?m sure you want to help Julie in any way you can but please know that she is settling in with Hospice right now, in addition to trying to manage the intense pain that has been so difficult to control. At this time, the best any of us can do is to send her cards or post on her CaringBridge account to let her know that we are thinking of her. If/when she is up for visitors, Julie, or one of her sisters or her best friend, Brandi will reach out to arrange a visit (phone or in-person). I know this is difficult news to cope with and I promise to reach out if there are any updates on Julie?s status. In the meantime, hold your loved one?s tight, and as Julie always says, ? make it a GREAT day?. Teresa Teresa S?. The CHIPS and Science bill signed by President Biden yesterday included the technology initiatives of the America COMPETES Act, USICA, and other bills. The portions of COMPETES that not pertinent to the bill (including Section 71102, Lacey Act Amendments) were not included. This should be the end of any threat to US aquaculture posed by the ill-conceived Lacey Act amendments during the 117th Congress which ends January 3, 2023. Thank you to everyone who contacted their Senators and Representative to express your opposition! Your informed outreach is hugely important when advocacy groups like the National Aquaculture Association, American Farm Bureau Federation, US Association of Reptile Keepers, Pet Advocacy Network and other like-minded organizations meet with legislators. Our message gains traction when Congress has been hearing from constituents. Also, a huge thank you to the animal keepers and organizations who opposed the Lacey Act amendments! The NAA and US aquaculture were not the only ones fighting these provisions. Stopping the Lacey Act amendments demonstrates that various animal interest groups can work together, make a difference, and be effective against animal rights organizations that fought hard for the amendments. Your membership and support for the NAA is so very important to track, report, inform and create effective advocacy. Share this NAA Update and ask your friends in the aquaculture farming community if they are a NAA member. If not, then tell them to get off their free-loading butt and move the needle for US aquaculture by joining. To join the NAA click here. Visit the NAA website for... For a "fact sheet", the Maine Aquaculture Association has numerous resources (funded often by various grants) to help their members develop and maintain their business. While I realize shellfish, net pens, and seaweed dominates production in the state, we can still learn from them. Attached is a fact on the beginners guide to aquaculture risk management.
