All,

This will be the last request for participation in the Fourth Quarter COVID-19 survey led by Virginia Tech and Ohio State! See below information shared by the National Aquaculture Association. I know everyone is surveyed out, but the data have had real impact for producers throughout the country.

The survey closes on January 22nd, 2021 at 11:59pm Eastern.

The North Central Region had 49 participants in the Quarter 1 survey and only 8 participants in the Quarter 2 survey. I know the number of producers we have in the region, so please share with your contacts and your state aquaculture associations so that we can achieve an even better response than Quarter 1.

Thanks.

Matt

Subject: Participate in the Pandemic 2020 Fourth Quarter Survey !

Dear Aquaculture Association Leaders and Shakers:

Please post or share with your members the Virginia Tech and The Ohio State University organized Quarter 4 (2020) national survey of the effects of the 2020 pandemic on aquaculture farms or businesses. Even if you or your members have not been negatively affected, the pandemic economic impacts are needed to effectively report what is happening to US aquaculture.

This link is for the Quarter 4 survey, covering the period from October 1st, 2020 to December 31st, 2020: https://virginiatech.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cZVigvmTjUz9x5j<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://virginiatech.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_cZVigvmTjUz9x5j__;!!KGKeukY!h8bwVCT7wIEFJhgKhbUuRWil9HvhhqDYgdWan4xgFOhmUScv1iy-9zFnsnUo_qMCHExVYw$>

The economic team has prepared a short video (3 minutes) (with help from Virginia Sea Grant) that summarizes how results from the previous surveys of the effects in 2020 of the pandemic have benefited aquaculture producers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFjbaBw4YPg<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFjbaBw4YPg__;!!KGKeukY!h8bwVCT7wIEFJhgKhbUuRWil9HvhhqDYgdWan4xgFOhmUScv1iy-9zFnsnUo_qMSiPg_Gw$>

Results from previous surveys are available at:

Please encourage your members to respond to the Q4 survey based on the period of time between October 1st, 2020 to December 31st, 2020. This survey should take about 25 minutes of your time to complete. No personally identifiable information (name, address, e-mail, telephone number, IP address, etc.) will be collected. All data from this survey will remain anonymous.

The survey will close at 11:59 pm (eastern time) on January 22nd, 2021.

Background Information

In response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), The Ohio State University and Virginia Tech have been collecting information about how your farm or business has been affected by this pandemic. This effort has been repeated quarterly to try and capture the evolving impacts of coronavirus disease on U.S. aquaculture, aquaponics, and allied businesses.

This survey is also being supported by funding from the National Sea Grant Office (NSGO) and the NOAA Fisheries. There are no benefits or rewards for participating in this study. Results from this study may be used to communicate the effects of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on commercial aquaculture, aquaponics or allied businesses to State and Federal agencies, in an effort to secure relief. Results from this study may also be published in the future. Participation in this research survey is voluntary. By continuing with this survey, you are consenting to the use of your responses for research purposes. If you do not consent for your responses to be used for research purposes, please discontinue this survey by closing the browser window.

If you would like a copy of the summary results, or have questions about this study, please contact Jonathan van Senten or Matthew Smith who are copied on this email.

Thank you for your support and participation in this project!

Paul
