Subject: Aquaculture Challenge 2021

Hi Matt,

See email below in case you know of any High School teachers or clubs (4-H, FFA, etc) who might be interested. Feel free to forward on. Thanks!

Hello,

My name is Elliot Nelson and I am employed through the Michigan Sea Grant extension office based out of Lake Superior State University. I’m reaching out to share an engaging opportunity for your science class or group. You and your group are invited to participate in the 6th annual Aquaculture Challenge program. If you are not familiar, the aquaculture challenge is a competitive science competition in which teams of students, ranging from 8th-12th grade, design and create an aquaponics system, and submit everything virtually. The competition is composed of three parts with NEW CHANGES for the 2021 competition. 1.) Design and create a tabletop (200ft3 or less) aquaponics system, 2.) Monitor the system, and 3.) Complete an outreach project, a research project, or a business plan. In previous years, student teams were provided a free Arduino control board and corresponding probes as well as a water chemistry monitoring kit; however, this year, we are offering a $250 stipend for participating teams to build and monitor their systems. Returning and new teams will be eligible for this stipend.

The dates and an overview of the competition can be found here<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vQGkIjcoe1vcQmWyGJmyppJzk-HbSdMrWxeSlaXno4pU6K9JXrR7dCn_tvVZzRi9-0YEdNLey14uP7c/pub__;!!KGKeukY!n9N7GUSKgf90INQ_tYi9jlxEYS9ftmnYBxDA4RqaNwMz4DxrCUoPmq7apaAJJgpEEPfenA$>, and below. The team rules manual with detailed information about the competition is here.<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vTjqYfPTm1ly1LEHWLebaWxpuU-7YeWYy2M13tVZ4iX7-WFeVH1HAfQbfN0ljAq6ohmrAkEPt-CHycQ/pub__;!!KGKeukY!n9N7GUSKgf90INQ_tYi9jlxEYS9ftmnYBxDA4RqaNwMz4DxrCUoPmq7apaAJJgqa70zRxg$> Registering a team is free and easy. Simply click here and fill out the required information.<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd1ARg3SVx_FPJz-_-Oq4RrvIXosOZNFYJnAPq9SN8A-NrQZQ/viewform__;!!KGKeukY!n9N7GUSKgf90INQ_tYi9jlxEYS9ftmnYBxDA4RqaNwMz4DxrCUoPmq7apaAJJgpfoDraSQ$> Registration is open now and closes on January 11th, or when 25 teams or more are registered. Teams can work on the competition as part of a class or as an after-school activity. Multiple teams can register per school, and teams can also register as part of an after-school club or other academic related organization.
