VERY cool opportunity for students or recent graduates! See below info from Elliot.

As a reminder, the Great Lakes Aquaculture Day is a free event on October 10th! We may see less aquaculture conferences early next year due to COVID, so get your education fix while you can!

Subject: Great Lakes Aquaculture Day Cooking Competition: Call for contestants

Hello! I am writing to invite any post-secondary student who likes cooking with seafood to apply to participate in a fun live virtual cooking competition

We are members of the Sea Grant Great Lakes Aquaculture Collaborative<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://greatlakesseagrant.com/aquaculture/__;!!KGKeukY!gIq1JfJAwSfqsAVq37Yl_FQQIGKiqPbNBCzd8bD-_F6mONGFgpNNRG7zQH2RVxkd-b-3WQ$>, a project formed around aquaculture whose members come from Sea Grant programs throughout the Great Lakes states.

We’re hosting a 2020 Great Lakes Aquaculture Day and want to share an exciting “fishy” opportunity for culinary students.

When? As part of the Great Lakes Aquaculture Collaborative<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://greatlakesseagrant.com/aquaculture/__;!!KGKeukY!gIq1JfJAwSfqsAVq37Yl_FQQIGKiqPbNBCzd8bD-_F6mONGFgpNNRG7zQH2RVxkd-b-3WQ$> we will be hosting our first annual Great Lakes Aquaculture Day October 10, 2020. The day will be an opportunity for aquaculture farmers and consumers around the region to learn more about how aquaculture works and what sort of products are available. The entire event will be hosted virtually using zoom webinar technology.

At the end of the day we will be hosting a live cooking competition using a key ingredient and aquaculture products from the Great Lakes region.

Who? Here’s where we’re looking for a few talented culinary students.

What? If you are an enthusiastic culinary student from across the Great Lakes region with an interest in fish we encourage you to apply to be one of our contestants in our 2020 Great Lakes Aquaculture Day cooking competition. You will cook from your kitchen of choice and will be able to use ingredients of your choosing along with one key ingredient of the day and a local aquaculture product selected by the Great Lakes Aquaculture Collaborative team.

Money? Participation stipends of $250 dollars will be awarded to the chosen students to compensate them for materials and time. The winner of the competition will be featured on a variety of Great Lakes and National Sea Grant websites and publications.

How to apply? Interested culinary students can apply using this google survey link<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdG3YS8eD8OWYD4He5O09DSzY9qenZJgJE83jY4gitDWuf5cw/viewform?usp=sf_link__;!!KGKeukY!gIq1JfJAwSfqsAVq37Yl_FQQIGKiqPbNBCzd8bD-_F6mONGFgpNNRG7zQH2RVxk4NIAcQQ$>. You will need to answer a handful of questions and submit a 30-60 second video showcasing your skills and enthusiasm for cooking with freshwater seafood.

Practice? Students chosen to participate will be contacted to set up a practice session and given additional details about the competition.

We encourage you to share this call for participants widely and to register for the Great Lakes Aquaculture Day. Application to be a participant closes September 28th.

Best,

Elliot Nelson
