Below please find the Call for Proposals for the NCR USDA SARE Farmer and Rancher Grant Program for 2021.  The deadline for submission is Dec. 3.  Farmers must be the PI for these grants but many times Extension Educators partner with farmers on these projects and proposals.

If you would, please make farmers in your county aware of this call for proposals.

NCR-SARE Announces 2021 Farmer Rancher Sustainable Agriculture Grant Call for Proposals

The 2021 North Central Region - Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (NCR-SARE) Farmer Rancher Grant Call for Proposals is now open.

Farmers and ranchers in the North Central region are invited to submit grant proposals to explore sustainable agriculture solutions to problems on the farm or ranch.  Proposals should show how farmers and ranchers plan to use their own innovative ideas to explore sustainable agriculture options and how they will share project results. Sustainable agriculture is good for the environment, profitable, and socially responsible. Projects should emphasize research or education/demonstration.

There are three types of competitive Farmer Rancher grants: individual grants ($9,000 maximum), team of two grants for two farmers/ranchers from separate operations who are working together ($18,000 maximum), and group grants for three or more farmers/ranchers from separate operations who are working together ($27,000 maximum). NCR-SARE expects to fund about 50 projects in the twelve-state North Central Region with this call. A total of approximately $720,000 is available for this program.

NCR-SARE will be accepting online submissions for the Farmer Rancher Grant Program. More information about the online submission system can be found in the call for proposals.

In order to develop community understanding of white corn, each original member was allowed to invite one person into the group who had the opportunity to receive a portion of the harvested crop, and could become full members.

“I got to spend more time with my family and we did community building,” reported Eliza Skenandore one of the participating growers. “I did this for my son who is three years old. He knows where the field is. He wanted to visit it every time we drove close to it. I got to share cultural knowledge with the group and see it come alive.”
