Ohio Aquaculture Community,
a long e-mail below but if you haven’t registered for the North Central Aquaculture Conference yet then please take the time this morning to read.
I am not attempting to fill your inbox with unwarranted e-mails; however, since there is some confusion about what e-mails were actually sent out/received through the Ohio State monitored listservs, I thought an e-mail from Ohio State should be distributed.
As you may know, this year the OAA is partnering with NCRAC for a regional conference. For those who have not been directly involved with NCRAC, you should know that when NCRAC “comes to town” they not only bring researchers and extension persons from 11 of the 12 Midwest states (which undoubtedly means university presentations you have never heard before), but there also a respectable amount of farmers from throughout the region who will be in your backyard.

  * Raise yellow perch? Producers and researchers will be here!
  * Raise trout? Producers and researchers will be here!
  * Raise tilapia in RAS? Producers and researchers will be here!
  * Raise a myriad of species for pond/lake management? Producers and researchers will be here (plus my friend from Alabama will present data on LMB in pond-side tank culture, split ponds, and intensively aerated ponds!)
  * Raise fish in aquaponic systems? An aquaponic producer will present at the conference!
  * Interested in the hurdles of the FDA HACCP regulations for seafood? The people who TEACH the course will be at the conference!
  * Want help with production, economics, or animal health? The people you are likely to call if you find yourself needing help will undoubtedly be in the room!
  * Want to learn about the Ohio Aquaculture Cooperative? Come in and ask the members!
We raise 30+ species in at least 5 different systems. If there was ever a regional conference that was worth your time and effort to learn about a lot of these species and systems from people who are also doing it, this is it. I can’t stress enough about the opportunity we all have to not only sit in the room and listen to quality presentations (many of which are by producers) but also the opportunity to network. Data has shown networking with producers is usually the NUMBER #1 reason people come to aquaculture conferences in the Midwest. You will not get a better regional opportunity than this for at least 6 more years!
I realize the time of the conference really snuck up on us, especially with it feeling like just yesterday was New Year’s Eve but believe it or not the early registration ends in basically 8 days. Door registration is twice what early registration is. I urge you to register before the early registration stops because I don’t want any of our producers to simply not come and learn because they didn’t realize the registration price jumps at the door.
I can’t wait to see you all there in a couple short weeks. Ask me questions about the speakers, the presentation topics, NCRAC, or whatever you want. Ohio needs a good turnout so that we can network together and help continue to push this industry forward.
Not in Ohio? Please spread the word to your state association!
