Please note that SARE now has open call for pre-proposals for Research and Education. Also now open is the Partnership Grant Program and the Farmer Rancher Grant Program. Go to https://www.northcentralsare.org and look on the right side of the page for the yellow Open Grant Programs section to learn more. Keep in mind the Farmer Rancher Grant Program now has a higher award ceiling with individual grants of $9,000, team of 2 farmers/ranchers $18,000, and group grants of $27,000 maximum. These do not require partnership with a university but if you’re in the Midwest I would be glad to discuss you/your group’s proposed work. There are also NCR SARE State Coordinators in each of the Midwest states which should be contacted if you’re interested in applying.

NCR-SARE Announces 2020 Call for Research and Education Preproposals

The 2020 North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program (NCR-SARE) Research and Education Grant Program Call for Preproposals is now available online at http://www.northcentralsare.org/Grants/Our-Grant-Programs/Research-and-Education<https://northcentralsare.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=59ae25c06b13f96d86e8dac2a&id=8fd2935018&e=5e59060e37>

NCR-SARE’s Research and Education (R&E) program supports sustainable agriculture innovators with competitive research and education grants. Individual grants range from $50,000 to $200,000. NCR-SARE expects to fund about 15 projects in the twelve-state North Central region for 2020.

For the 2020 funding cycle of the Research and Education Grant Program, $3 million is available for funding projects on any topic appropriate to the NCR-SARE program, and the funding limit for a project has increased to $250,000.

New for the 2020 funding cycle of the Research and Education Grant Program, NCR-SARE will be accepting preproposals for long-term projects. Recognizing that some research/extension systems work is complex and requires collaborative interdisciplinary work that takes many years to complete, applicants will indicate that they are applying under the long term option. The long-term option allows for additional funding in subsequent 3-year cycles with satisfactory progress. See the Call for Preproposals for details.

NCR-SARE will be accepting online submissions for the Research and Education Grant Program using our online submission system. More information about the online submission system can be found in the call for preproposals.  The deadline for Research and Education Program preproposals is October 10, 2019 at 4pm CDT.

NCR-SARE administers each of its grant programs with specific goals, audiences, and timelines. Funding considerations are based on how well the applicant presents the problem being addressed, its relevance to sustainable agriculture in the 12-state North Central region, farmer-rancher engagement in the project, and how well it aligns with NCR-SARE's goals.

Funding decisions are made by a regional Administrative Council (AC), with review from a Technical Committee<https://northcentralsare.us12.list-manage.com/track/click?u=59ae25c06b13f96d86e8dac2a&id=fadcb83243&e=5e59060e37>. The Administrative Council is a collection of producers, university representatives, nonprofit group interests, Extension and NRCS people, other government employees, and agribusiness representatives. This group sets research priorities and recommends projects for funding.
