All,

for those of you who were at the economics and marketing workshop last weekend in Reynoldsburg, Ohio we heard all about the reasons the catfish industry has had such a substantial drop off. We heard Dr. Engle mention efficiency on the farm, adapting during economics downturns (negative cash flows), and the necessity to sell more than just "fish" -- sell your high quality, local product.

In my mailbox this morning was this edition of Aquaculture North America which has an article that reiterates what Dr. Engle preached. Those who survived the bad times were efficient and adapted. No matter the species, learning from other people's mistakes and successes will go a long way. The article is worth the read.
