All,

it's summer and everyone's really busy on the farm but I'm going to start this anyway. While the OSU South Centers website (https://southcenters.osu.edu/aquaculture/extension/education) has numerous external links to other websites, extension publications, videos, etc., things can get overwhelming even for those who have been in the business a number of years. I believe being a lifelong learner (in general and in your field) is the key to success. For that reason, I'll do my best to start The Forwarded Fish.

The Forwarded Fish will be a specific video, extension newsletter, previous PowerPoint presentation, or something similar that I will send to Aqua-Ohio and SC-aquaponics every week or every other week. I encourage everyone to give it a read or watch and if you come up with specific questions then feel free to ask the "group" or e-mail me separately at smith.11460 at osu.edu. I'd be glad to chat more or clarify something you read. The idea is not for me to push more of my own writing, but more so to simply get more people to watch university videos and read publications to improve knowledge on a subject. If you have a specific fact sheet or video that you would like me to use then feel free to forward it to me and I'll review it and possibly send it out to the group for discussion.

We all know that many fact sheets and videos have been done on pond culture but keep in mind many of the same principles remain, no matter if you're culturing fish indoors or out.

Maybe this will be a flop but it's worth a shot. We'll start today with a Southern Regional Aquaculture Center publication entitled The Role of Stress in Fish Disease (SRAC 474). It discusses the fact that stressing fish in a culture environment is unavoidable but doing so minimally can improve farm operations. The PDF of the publication is attached to this e-mail.

Regards,

Matt
