[Sc-aquaponics] Tilapia Food

Here is a widely open-ended question for the list. What is "the best" food for tilapia?

I am a relative newb. Last year I raised goldfish and tomatoes on Walmart gold fish flakes in a homemade aquaponic system on my back porch. 

This year I gave away the goldfish, bought some tilapia, and moved the system to my little greenhouse. When I bought the tilapia fingering I also bought a couple pounds of a Purina fish food. When that ran out I bought a bag of the only fish food stocked at my local feed store. The tilapia do not like it. Neither do I. 

I will try to find the Purina food they were thriving on. But for price, nutrition, and happy fish, what other feeds should I consider?  A high quality local feed would be fantastic. I am interested in growing/making fish food but that is not progressing quickly enough. 

I should also add that my couple dozen 6-inch tilapia now share their tote with a few dozen tilapia fry of their own doing. The fry are eating algae and Walmart flake food. What should I feed them?
