[Sc-aquaponics] [Aqua-ohio] Biofilter Material for Aquaponics

Joey,

I use a polyethylene media called MB3 from Water Management
Technologies (WMT) in a moving bed filter (mbbr) composed of a 55
gallon plastic drum, a membrane diffuser in the bottom center of
the drum where air in pumped in, an intake water line bottom side
that pumps in water from the clarifer tank, and an overflow pipe
that drops the water into my raft tanks via gravity.

It's half the price of Kaldnes and is made in the U.S., unlike
Kaldnes that is now made in China. Nothing against free trade but
I go American any time I can, and at half the price @ $25.00 per
cubic foot it can't be beat. WMT actually has data on their
website that shows it works better than Kaldnes.

What I really like about the mbbr filters is they are small
footprint, self cleaning, no maintenance and relatively cheap to
build. Lots of oxygen in the tank too!
