<p class="MsoNormal">We have officially completed our first week of lab. Up next is week 2. Things are going to start to get a bit complicated as the experiment being completed changes based on the day of the week. Each window has a master syllabus that shows
which experiment is being completed by each course. It’s a good idea to reference this at the start of each window shift.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Please do not change the window notes unless a staff member instructs you to do so. If you believe something is erroneous, please ask. Someone changed the VRM window notes to indicate that the flasks were being handed out from the windows.
This was incorrect, as they should be provided on the carts.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Experiment CPC<o:p></o:p></b></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">CPC is a unique experience for everyone involved :)</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none">-Only the apparatus in the non-renovated rooms need to be disassembled. The distillation apparatus in the new rooms just need to be unplugged.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none">-When an apparatus does need to be disassembled, do not break it down into more than 4 pieces (bucket with pump, heating mantle with distillation head, condenser with tubing, and receiving
flask with vacuum take off). See the SOP for more info. The goal is to minimize how much gets taken apart so that it’s easier to put it back together again. Tubs should not be necessary, as everything can stay clamped to its ring stand.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none">-Connections should be complete. The ground glass joints were not fully inserted into each other.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none">-Ideally, the pump and heating mantle should be plugged in and turned on about 5-10 minutes before the lab session starts.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none">- The apparatus needs to be checked every 30 minutes by someone from the window. Set a timer for 30 minutes to remind yourself.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none">
</span>When it goes off grab the ice refill beaker, scoop up some ice from the cooler in the hall, and dump it into the bucket in the sink. You should also check the liquid level in the heating flask. If it’s less than half full, remove the receiving flask
and empty it into the heating flask. Restart the timer when you return to the window.<span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none">- If you need your ice cooler refilled, call downstairs. We can get ice from the fourth floor of celeste and on the first floor of Evans.</span><span style="font-size:12.0pt;color:#212121;mso-ligatures:none"><o:p></o:p></span></p>
