<p class="MsoNormal">We must perform some computer software maintenance in preparation for fall semester.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">As part of this, we will be upgrading our Physics computers, to use the latest
<b>Microsoft Office 365 applications</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Some of our computers are already running Office 365 applications, and those should be unaffected. Computers still running old Office 2016 are the primary target.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Physics computers will<b> </b>automatically<b> </b>begin their
<b>upgrade to Office 365 on or after July 20<sup>th</sup></b>. EXCEPT: instructional labs, classroom computers (scheduling/testing/coordination in progress).<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If you want to upgrade to Office 365 immediately, it is available in Software Center app (on Windows) and in Self-Service app (on Macs). Look for “<b>Microsoft Office 365 Single-User</b>”.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This update <b><i>will include</i> research/instrument computers</b>, unless they are already disconnected from the network, or have software update exceptions in place.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">This update <b><i>does not</i> require a reboot</b>.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Please send us a message <a href="mailto:action@physics.osu.edu">
action@physics.osu.edu</a> if you have any concerns about this update on any OSU-owned computer. I can delay this update from going to any specific computers, upon request. You must notify us by end of day this Friday the 17<sup>th</sup>, in order to opt-out
of this specific update push.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The most notable change is that in order to use Microsoft Office programs,
<b>you may be required to authenticate with your OSU credentials</b>. This is now becoming a necessity for licensing reasons.<o:p></o:p></p>
