OnCampus Today features new service-learning course from the College of Engineering
As part of a new course developed by Howard Greene and offered this spring, seven College of Engineering students teamed up online with students at Zamorano University to work on rainwater harvesting approaches for the village of Las Lomitas, Honduras.  Instructors interested in utilizing Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) strategies can get support be contacting the Office of Service-Learning or the Office of International Affairs.

Office of Service-Learning and the Drake Institute offer first virtual S-L Course Design Institute
Throughout May, 10 instructors participated in our first ever virtual Service-Learning CDI utilizing Carmen and OneNote.  These instructors were recipients of our S-L Course Development Grant in either 2020 or 2021.  After canceling the 2020 CDI, OSL was thrilled to collaborate once again with the Drake Institute to find a way to have a 2021 CDI.  Congratulations to our 10 instructors on completing the intense work of a CDI, and thank you to Laurie Maynell, Eric Brinkman, and Claire Sweigart for developing and facilitating this opportunity.  Applications for S-L Course Development Grants and the CDI open each Autumn.

Ohio Campus Compact now accepting proposals for the OCC Annual Meeting
Ohio Campus Compact is accepting proposals for their 2021 virtual annual meeting taking place on August 5 & 6.  Both traditional and non-traditional virtual presentation proposals focused on advancing civic engagement work with and for students and local communities will be accepted until June 21.  Dr. Tia Brown McNair will be delivering the keynote for this meeting.

Events
8th International Symposium on Service-Learning announced
The 8th ISSL will be offered in two parts: virtually in June 2021 and in-person in Cyprus in June 2022.  The topic for the symposium is "Critical Service-Learning Across the Globe: Transforming Teaching into Social Action."  The virtual event will take place on June 11 and provide the opportunity to stay in touch and exchange ideas until the in-person meeting in June 2022.
