Virginia Cope named 2019 Reviewer of the Year for the Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship
Virginia Cope, associate dean at Ohio State Newark and associate professor in the Department of English, has been named the 2019 Reviewer of the Year by JCES!  JCES is a peer-reviewed international journal through which faculty, staff, students, and community partners disseminate scholarly work.  JCES integrates teaching, research, and community engagement in all disciplines, addressing critical problems identified through a community-participatory process.  Dr. Cope is a champion of engaged scholarship at Ohio State and frequently assists the Office of Service-Learning with our review processes.  Congratulations, Virginia!

2020 Service-learning grants now open
Information and the application for the 2019-2020 Service-Learning Course Grants are now available.  Any Ohio State instructor who would like to create a new service-learning course or improve an existing course with service-learning is invited to apply.  This includes courses offered at the regional campuses, and undergraduate or graduate level courses.  Please considering applying and inviting your colleagues to consider service-learning.  Applications are due February 4, 2020.

Teaching a Community-Engaged Course introductory workshop on Oct. 30
The Office of Service-Learning is partnering with UITL to offer an introductory workshop on Teaching a Community-Engaged Course on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at 1pm in Thompson Library.  This interactive workshop will introduce community-engaged teaching and service-learning.  Participants will cover the reasons these approaches are impactful for students and instructors, best practices for community-engaged teaching, and Ohio State's resources to support this pedagogy.

OSU Outreach & Engagement features American Sign Language service-learning opportunities
Kristin Wickham-Saxon and Marla Berkowitz, instructors in the American Sign Language Program, were recently featured by the Office of Outreach and Engagement for their service-learning efforts.  Their course is a real partnership, allowing students' to enter true deaf space to enhance their ASL skills and providing a platform for the deaf community to gain allies.

Resources and Opportunities
Registration for Compact20 national conference is now open
We are just 200 days away from the Campus Compact National Conference, which will take place March 29 - April 1, 2020 in Seattle, WA!  The conference will explore the theme: The Promise of Full Participation: Democracy, Opportunity, Voice.  Presentations representing work undertaken through public, private, two-year, four-year, and graduate colleges and universities, along with organizations outside of higher education, including community-based partners will be included.  Discounted registration is available to all faculty and staff of Ohio State as a Campus Compact member institution.
