University Engagement Recognition Awards
The annual University Engagement Recognition Awards program took place on May 2.  Dr. Canise Bean was awarded the Distinguished Service-Learning Award for her work with the OHIO Project.  Created in 2002, the OHIO Project has forged partnerships across the state to provide dental care to underserved populations through Community Based Dental Education during dental students' final year of education.  Each senior dental student provides oral health education and over 400 additional procedures in community sites over the 50 days spent providing care in community clinics.
In the Emerging Service-Learning Award category, Kristin Wickham-Saxon and Marla Berkowitz were honored for their work in the American Sign Language program.  Through collaborative teaching as Deaf and Hearing professionals respectively, Berkowitz and Wickham-Saxon model reciprocal relationships where ASL and Deaf culture intersections are displayed during class.  At their partner sites, OSU students perform reciprocity by mastering their language skills in the context of real-life situations while simultaneously providing extra support to the scarce resources of marginalized groups in need.

Community Partner Highlight
With Memorial Day approaching, we would like to highlight a newer organization in Columbus: the National Veterans Memorial and Museum.  The NVMM is a living tribute to over 40 million Americans who have served this country since its founding.  Its mission is to honor Americans' contributions through military service, connect civilians with veterans and their experience, inspire visitors to serve their communities as active engaged citizens, and educate about the history and value of service.  The NVMM is working with Ohio State's Office of Military and Veterans Services, ROTC, and the Office of Service-Learning to get as many OSU students involved as possible.  If you are looking for a new partner for a service-learning course, the NVMM would love to start a conversation.

Ohio Campus Compact annual meeting early bird registration ends soon
The Ohio Campus Compact Annual Meeting will take place August 4 and 5 at Ohio State's Blackwell Inn and Pfahl Conference Center.  This is a great opportunity to network with and learn from others working to advance community and civic engagement in higher education across the state.  Early bird discounts on registration end May 27.  All Ohio State affiliates are eligible for the member campus registration rate.

IARSCLE and Imagining America conferences to take place in Albuquerque this October
The International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) and Imagining America will both hold their annual events in mid-October in Albuquerque this year.  This provides a convenient opportunity to attend two impactful conferences.  Imagining America's 20th Anniversary National Gathering will take place Oct. 17-19, with belonging, indigeneity, and migration as framing concepts for consideration of how we define, design, and foster belonging in our home communities and as a nation state.  Presentation proposals can be submitted until June 7.  IARSLCE's annual conference will take place Oct. 23-25, focusing on research taking place in distinct locations around the globe as well as efforts to understand engagement that crosses international and other borders.  Presentation proposals can be submitted until May 31.

Campus Compact now accepting proposals for the Compact20 national conference
The Campus Compact National Conference will take place March 29 - April 1, 2020 in Seattle, WA, and they are now accepting session proposals.  Proposals should explore and connect to the theme: The Promise of Full Participation: Democracy, Opportunity, Voice.  Proposals are welcomed representing work undertaken through public, private, two-year, four-year, and graduate colleges and universities, along with organizations outside of higher education, including community-based partners.  Proposals are due June 30.

2019 Engagement Scholarship Consortium Conference registration now open
Registration is now open for the 2019 Engagement Scholarship Consortium Conference, Deepening Our Roots: Advancing Community Engagement in Higher Education.  The conference will be held Oct. 8-9, in Denver, CO.  The keynote speakers will include E. Gordon Gee.  All Ohio State affiliates are eligible for the ESC member registration rate, and early registration pricing is available until Aug. 17.
