At Ohio State's Newark campus, students have the opportunity to become involved in service-learning projects and internships in the local community.  In many cases, those opportunities open doors and prepare students for their future in ways they never expected.  That's what happened for Lenise Sunnenberg, who has been helping to create a mural in the community's downtown.

 Ohio State Marion service news
The season of giving kicked off at Ohio State Marion with students collecting, packaging, and distributing more than 1,000 articles of winter accessories to help less fortunate families in the area this winter.  Students from Amy Tibbals' English 2367.01S course assembled and distributed more than 455 "Loving Scarves" bags through partnerships with a number of Marion and central Ohio nonprofit organizations.

Resources and Opportunities
Service-Learning and Community Engagement Research Academy
The IUPUI Center for Service and Learning and Indiana Campus Compact will be hosting the 9th Annual Connecting Campuses with Communities conference on May 15-19, 2017.  This will include a Research Academy on Wednesday, May 17 - Friday, May 19th.  The Academy will help attendees strengthen their research on service-learning and community engagement by providing consultation and feedback on research ideas.  Topics will include: integrating curricula and research, developing measurement approaches, designing theory-grounded research questions using ethical methods, and writing research proposals and manuscripts.

Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning seeking article submissions
The Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning (MJCSL)  is now seeking articles for volume 24 (fall 2017/spring 2018).  An abstract that is no more than one page in length should be sent to editor Jeffery Howard (jphoward at umich.edu<mailto:jphoward at umich.edu>) by December 20th.  Invitations to submit an article will then be made by email no later than mid-January, with invited articles due March 27th.  MJCSL is a national, peer-reviewed journal with faculty and administrator subscribers all over the world.  Published articles focus on: research, theory, pedagogy, and other issues pertinent to curriculum-based service-learning; campus-community partnerships; and scholarship of and on engagement.
