New Program Manager

We are pleased to introduce Claire Sweigart, the new Program Manager for the Office of Service-Learning!  Claire holds a B.S. in Environmental Education from OSU's School of the Environment and Natural Resources as well as a J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.  Her most recent experience was working at the University of Cincinnati for three and a half years as their Sustainability Coordinator.  In that role, Claire worked closely with students, faculty, staff, and community partners to advance environmental and social sustainability programs and create a campus culture of engagement.  While at UC, she also taught introductory environmental law and policy as an adjunct.  Claire is excited to be returning to her alma mater and re-joining the service-learning community here.

Travel grants for the scholarship of engagement available

The Office of Service-Learning, Research, and Outreach and Engagement are offering small grants to offset the cost of travel or other expenses related to presenting at conferences or participating in workshops associated with advancing the scholarship of engagement across teaching and research activities.  Funding will be offered for the IUPUI Service-Learning Research Institute, the Engagement Scholarship Consortium Conference, and the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement. IUPUI Service-Learning Research Institute

The IUPUI Research Academy is an interactive summer workshop to develop skills, learn about methods and literature, develop a research project, and advance research related to service and learning in higher education.  The proceedings challenge participants to develop collaborations with fellow practitioners and researchers that will enhance their work and contribute to a collective understanding of service learning.  The Research Academy will take place May 13 - 15, 2015, in Indianapolis, IN.  Travel assistance grants are available; see information above.

Engagement Scholarship Consortium Conference

The 16th Annual Conference of the Engagement Scholarship Consortium will take place at Penn State from September 27 - 30, 2015.  Working together to advance engaged scholarship as an intrinsic, transformational component of the student, faculty, and staff experience, the conference theme will be Engaged Scholarship: Advancing Rigor, Elevating Impact.  Proposals are due March 20, 2015, and registration opens in May.   Travel assistance grants are available; see information above.

International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Civic Engagement (IARSLCE)

The IARSLCE Annual Conference will take place in Boston from November 16 - 18, 2015 on the theme Revolutionary Scholarship: Innovation of Community Engagement Models.  The conference will highlight the historical foundations of modern innovation to reveal how past research inspires original research questions and innovative methods to advance the field into the 21st Century.  Proposals are due March 27, 2015, and registration will open in late spring.   Travel assistance grants are available; see information above.
