Happy Holidays from the Service-Learning Initiative In accordance with university closures, the Service-Learning Initiative will be out from December 24-27, 2011 and January 2nd, 2012. We wish you all a very happy holiday season, and we look forward to working with you in the new year.
Final Chance to RSVP for Service-Learning Assessment Workshop  A recent study<http://depts.washington.edu/ccph/pdf_files/1789-9723-1-PB.pdf> suggests that sustained institutional  participation in service-learning can be effective in fostering a greater culture of community engagement in academic institutions. While this is an important finding, there is still limited data to support these claims, so it is important for us as an institution to measure and track the impact of our outreach. This workshop is the first step.  The workshop is open to anyone with an interest in service-learning research and assessment, from both inside and outside of OSU. Outreach and Engagement Impact Grants RFP  The Office of Outreach and Engagement has posted the Request for Proposal and Application form for the Engagement Impact grants, a peer-reviewed, competitive funding program through which you may submit proposals for up to $75,000. Since its inception, Outreach & Engagement's successful seed grants program has helped colleges and units leverage the talent of an investment in their faculty, staff, and students to attract more than $3 million in additional funding support for impactful programs. The grants support interdisciplinary teams to establish and/or expand innovative, creative, scholarly outreach and engagement initiatives that impact communities and the university, build sustainable partnerships, earn recognition for the college/unit and the university, and reflect the spirit of our collective outreach and engagement mission. Jenzabar Student Leadership Awards The Jenzabar Foundation has opened the nomination process for its fifth annual Student Leadership Awards, which recognize student groups that have made a difference in the world through service and philanthropic activities at the local, national, and international levels. The awards will honor ten student-led campus groups or activities that have made a significant impact beyond their own institution. Nominations are open for students enrolled in any accredited institution of higher education. Each award includes a $5,000 grant to support the student or group's future humanitarian endeavors The first step in the submission process is joining the online Jenzabar Foundation Community Network; please use referral code SLA2012.
