John,

You are on the right track: OSC uses VirtualGL with Matlab when users request an OnDemand session that uses GPUs: https://github.com/OSC/bc_osc_matlab/blob/master/template/script.sh.erb#L37.

Subject: [OOD-users] Hardware display rendering with Open OnDemands Interactive Desktop Sessions

Hello,

I’d like to inquire if anyone has successfully setup up the remote compute nodes to utilize nvidia gpus for display rendering. Specifically, Matlab defaults to softwareGL rendering as the display is using TurboVNC. I’ve started to look at the VirtualGL project but thought to check with the list before going too far down that route. I understand that this is not a specific limitation of Open OnDemand but inherent with utilizing the VNC protocol.

Many Thanks,

John
