and legal history. CURTO's mission is to engage students, faculty, and the larger community in urban issues, particularly as they manifest themselves in Milwaukee.</font>

about society, cultures, and people in the past; to undertake original research to answer those questions; and to develop the capacity to present their findings in clear, compelling, and accessible ways. One of the largest academic departments at Oberlin,
we approach the study of the past through a variety of methodologies to help our students become astute observers, practiced researchers, and critical thinkers. We emphasize both the importance of understanding how past societies functioned and of exploring
the ways in the past shapes the present.</font> </div>

committed teachers who work closely with students. We introduce our students to the joys of historical research, and teach them how to pose and answer significant and meaningful questions. Our students have the opportunity to learn about the history of many
different cultures and eras and to become able communicators who can interpret information and express ideas in written, digital, and oral forms. Many of our majors undertake significant independent research projects and they are regularly awarded department
grants to do research in archives around the world.</font> </div>

Latin America, Europe, Russia, and the United States. It includes courses on the history of gender and sexuality; Latino/a history, Asian American, African American, and Native American history; historical memory; history of science and technology; intellectual
history; and cultural history, among many others. Our courses also contribute to and provide entry points into many related fields of study, including Comparative American studies, Africana Studies, East Asian studies, Classics, and Gender, Sexuality, and
Feminist Studies.</font> </div>
