MAP tests can be sued to screen for reading and math identification. Please make sure, though, that you only use the scores from the MAP Survey with Goals assessment. The two science portions and the Language Arts portion of MAP are not approved for gifted identification or screening. Since MAP measures academic achievement only, it may not be used to identify for cognitive ability. There is no cognitive skills component to MAP. The scores are nationally normed (not half-nationally normed) from a large normative study recently redone and meet the criteria for approval set forth by the state in terms of validity and reliability.
