Ohioans have made countless storied contributions to the nation’s armed forces, and many of Ohio’s students are continuing this legacy. The Ohio Department of Education is honoring these students during the virtual All-Ohio United States Armed Forces Career Commitment Celebration. |

U.S. Department of Education approves Ohio’s ESSA waiver
The U.S. Department of Education recently approved Ohio’s waiver for the Every Student Succeeds Act. The waiver limits the consequences of data generated during this school year in alignment with federal flexibility and recently passed state legislation. |

Ohio student named president of national organization
Educators Rising, an organization for high school students planning to join the teaching profession, has selected Ohio student Zhane Tyler McCorvey to be its national student president. |

Ohio school honored as Green Ribbon School
The James N. Gamble Montessori High School in Cincinnati was named a U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon School. Green Ribbon Schools are honored for their innovative efforts to reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness and ensure effective sustainability education. |

Free meals for students in 2021-2022 school year
The Department received approval to offer free breakfast and free lunch to all students attending schools on the national school lunch program through the entire 2021-2022 school year. |

Emergency medical waiver applications for assessments due June 11
Although Ohio expects all students to take part in state tests, there may be rare circumstances in which students cannot take one or more assessments during the testing window dates because of medical emergencies. The Department recently announced the process for applying for an emergency medical waiver. |
