Dear Colleagues,

I'm always impressed with the opportunities for educators in Ohio--I wanted to remind you that the Belin-Blank Center at the University of Iowa provides professional learning opportunities throughout the year in formats to meet your needs! Please share this information with others who would benefit from this information.

For anyone who would benefit from Math for High Ability Learners with Dr. Ann Shoplik, that one-semester-hour class begins today, so you must get enrolled in the next day or two! For teachers/coordinators of the gifted who don't have expertise in math (or didn't even like math much when they were in school), this class is for you: how can YOU still provide the best options for your students who are showing talent or the potential to develop talent in math?

EDTL:4022:0WKA/PSQF:4122:0WKA Math Programming for High Ability Students

This workshop will focus on the intersection of theory underlying the unique challenges presented by talented students and practice necessary to develop the mathematical talent of gifted students. Participants will develop strategies for assessment and program implementation. (Participants do not need a background in mathematics or math education).

Instructor: Ann Lupkowski Shoplik Ph.D.<mailto:ann-shoplik at uiowa.edu>

The attached list provides you with upcoming classes. For more information, visit belinblank.org/educators<https://belinblank.education.uiowa.edu/Educators/Courses/>. The schedule each semester can be found by following the link to Schedule<https://belinblank.education.uiowa.edu/Educators/Courses/schedule.aspx>; directions to register as a Distance Learner and enroll in a class can be found under the green button for Register<https://belinblank.education.uiowa.edu/Educators/Courses/registration.aspx>.

All of our classes are aligned with NAGC standards for gifted education, and all fulfill a requirement in one of the strands required for the State of Iowa Talented and Gifted Endorsement<https://belinblank.education.uiowa.edu/educators/endorsement/>.

More importantly, these classes focus on the things that you might need for your program this spring!

Classes offered in conjunction with an event with an additional cost (e.g., EDTL:4073:0WKA Programming/Curriculum for High Ability Students: Problem-Based Learning taught by Dr. Shelagh Gallagher<https://belinblank.education.uiowa.edu/Educators/Courses/schedule.aspx#EDTL:4073:0WKA> or RCE:4124:0WKA Ethnic and Cultural Issues and Giftedness: Identifying and Serving Underrepresented Students<https://belinblank.education.uiowa.edu/Educators/Courses/schedule.aspx#RCE:4124:0WKA>) provide an automatic 50% tuition scholarship, applied to the cost of graduate tuition (currently, $544 per semester hour).

We look forward to finding the "just-in-time" professional development for you!

Laurie
