All --

Thanks to Mary Collier for the tip on the Washington Post article on the
effects of genetics and wealth (or lack of it) on measured giftedness.
While some of the information might have been suspected, intuited or known,
its good to have a genetics-based understanding of the topic. Some
takeaways for me:
... money trumps genes ...
... If you don’t have the family resources, even the bright kids — the kids
who are naturally gifted — are going to have to face uphill battles ...
... high-income parents have given their young children a head start
by *feeding
them well*, *reading to them at higher rates* and *enrolling them in more
activities*. ...
... It goes against the narrative that there are substantial genetic
differences between people who are born into wealthy households and those
born into poverty ...

The bottom line is that no matter what, we need to continue our efforts, at
all levels, on behalf of gifted education.

Sincerely,
Nancy Jamison
