Job Announcement: Education Program Specialist – Gifted Education
The Ohio Department of Education, Office for Exceptional Children, is seeking dynamic individuals with a passion for improving educational outcomes for students identified as gifted. The successful candidates will have administrative experience in the field of gifted education and experience with students that are identified as twice-exceptional.
 
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Oversees research and development projects related to services for children who are gifted (i.e., twice exceptional) in grades K-12:
·        Gathers data to research prevalence of twice exceptional children in Ohio;
·        Determines how educational services are delivered in consideration of both exceptionalities;
·        Develops tools, products, and services to guide school districts that struggle to serve twice exceptional children;
·        Provides technical support to school districts and families on issues regarding twice exceptional students;
·        Develops products that relate to appropriate provision of services and differentiated instructional strategies for students with disabilities who are gifted;
·        Determines how districts might manage and deliver services to twice exceptional children while considering and differentiating instruction for additional exceptionality.
 Reviews, approves and provides technical assistance of local education agency Gifted Identification Plans in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations:

·        Develops, approves and monitors implementation of corrective action plans when non-compliance is identified;
·        Manages follow-up with local education agencies to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations;
·        Ensures district plans are in compliance with state rules and provide appropriate opportunities for the identification of students with disabilities, economically disadvantaged students, and English learners.
 Assists with projects related to local education agency gifted program accountability:

·        Performs audits of students identified as gifted;
·        Reviews and revises gifted operating standards;
·        Uses research information to make policy and guidance recommendations for serving children who are gifted;
·        Monitors appropriate use of gifted funds;
·        Reviews required local education agency annual reports and other issues related to gifted education and state accountability system (e.g., gifted performance indicator).
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of a Master’s degree in one of the following areas: Education [i.e., gifted education, special education, educational administration/leadership, curriculum (core academic content), assessment, English learner, psychology (i.e., school psychology, educational psychology), educational guidance/counseling]; Social Work; Public Policy; Public Administration; Juris Doctorate; and the following experience:
·        3 years experience providing support and services to children who are gifted including students who are identified as twice exceptional
·        OR 3 years experience providing support and services to those who work with children who are gifted including students who are identified as twice exceptional (i.e., teacher, administrator, professional development provider, technical assistance provider).
 
Additional Information:
·        This position is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio but requires travel throughout State of Ohio and may require overnight stay. (Must be willing and able to secure a valid driver’s license OR supply your own )
·        Starting compensation for this position is non-negotiable at $26.30 hourly/$54,704 annually with the opportunity to advance in pay after 6 months.
