OAGC January News Flash - Teacher Academy; Advocacy; Donations

Professional Development

Spring Teacher Academy

The OAGC Spring Teacher Academy (February 26 and 27, 2018), which will
feature Dina Brulles, is quickly approaching. The deadline for early
registration is 2.12.18. The deadline for discounted hotel rates is
2.4.18. To register for the academy, book a hotel room, view a special
message from Dina Brulles, or to view drafts of the agenda, sessions, and

Advocacy

SB216, the education deregulation bill has not received a hearing since
December. It is widely exepected that a sub-bill will be drafted within the
next two weeks or so. In addition, two bills that would revamp district
report cards, are expected to be introduced in the Ohio House soon. There
is some speculation that the gifted performance indicator might be targeted
for elimination or significant modification in any one of these bills. The
gifted performance indicator is the sole accountabilty measure for gifted
students in Ohio. As information is available about any of these bills, it
will be posted at www.oagc.com/advocacyalerts.asp .

OAGC Scholarships

If it's winter, it's time to talk about scholarships! The deadline for the
OAGC student scholarship is February 15, 2018. The deadline for the OAGC
college scholarship is April 15, 2018. For more information, please go

OAGC Review Articles Needed

OAGC is looking for a few good articles for the Spring Review. To ask for
an extension, or to submit articles, please email anngift at aol.com  by
February 15th. We are particularly looking for articles about how districts
are successfully implementing the new gifted operating standards including
the gifted professional development standards for classroom teachers who
are providing services to gifted students.
