  Mensa testing news for western-southwest Ohio:


Dayton AreaMensa, the local chapter of the international high IQ society, will hold atesting session on Saturday, May 14, 2016, starting at 2 p.m. at the Stroop-WilmingtonBranch Library, 3980 Wilmington Pike, Kettering.

Test-takers should arrive about15-20 minutes prior to starting time to complete registration. Late-arrivalscannot be accommodated once testing has started. The test takes about twohours. Those who score in the top two percent of the general population oneither of two tests of logic and deductive reasoning are eligible formembership.

The test is open to anyone age 14 and older. The test Mensaadministers is not normed and validated for persons under 14, who may qualifyby other means. For applicants at least 14 but under 18, a parent or guardianmust sign for permission to take the test although the parent or guardian neednot be present at the testing session. If appropriate, please contact us forthe appropriate form for the parent/guardian to sign. Forms will be availableat the testing session or we can send them in advance of the test date. Eachtest taker must have a photo ID. There is no charge to take the test. To coverexpenses of the testing program the national Mensa office charges $40 to scorethe test and report the results to the person who took the test. This may bepaid at the time the test is given or a pre-paid testing voucher good for twoyears may be bought on line at https://www.us.mensa.org/join/testing/testingvoucher/.

For additional information or to preregister for the test, e-mail testing at dayton.us.mensa.org or call 937-546-7885. Preregistration isencouraged and pre-registrants will have priority. Walk-ins will be accepteduntil testing supplies or available seats run out.

Applicants of any agecan use prior evidence from a wide variety of other standardized IQ tests toqualify. This is the only way a person under 14 can qualify; see http://www.us.mensa.org/join/testscores/, http://www.us.mensa.org/join/gifted-youth-admission/, and http://www.mensaforkids.org/.

A non-language, culture-fairbattery of tests is available for those whose primary language is not English,those who are dyslexic, or those who have a physical condition which wouldprevent them from taking the regular Mensa Admissions Tests. The non-languagetests are given only by appointment. Ifthis would apply to you, please let us know so we can set up an appointment.

If one qualifies for membership and becomes a member of DaytonArea Mensa within 90 days from offer of membership the Dayton Area Mensa treasurywill reimburse the new member for the cost of the national office’s evaluationof his/her admission test results, whether the member took the test with aMensa proctor or provided documentation of a previous qualifying test score.

Members of AmericanMensa range in age from 2 to 102. They include engineers, homemakers,teachers, military personnel, actors, athletes, mechanics, students,  CEOs and many others, and they share only onetrait — high intelligence. The Dayton chapter includes about 250 members fromelementary school age through early 90s and regularly organizes lunch anddinner groups, games nights, pub crawls, movie nights, and visits to variouseducational, cultural, and just plain fun events around the area.
