Dear Colleagues:
Since 1980, the Belin-Blank Center has provided an intensive residential experience for general education teachers and other educators, including counselors and administrators, who want to learn more about meeting the needs of high-ability learners. Each summer, participants provide feedback reflected in participants comments:
[The Fellowship] has truly changed me, and I am motivated to go to work advocating for gifted students! The Belin-Blank culture and purpose is designed for gifted education but its love for learning and students is most inspiring and a reminder to teachers about why we teach. Another Belin-Blank Fellow noted: [The Fellowship] will help me tremendously as a new principal. Please make every effort to get at least one principal/administrator every year! They need to be convinced of this! So, please let your administrators know that they are welcome to join us.
The Connie Belin and Jacqueline N. Blank Fellowship program, June 20 - 24, 2016, provides

  *   Full room and board in a University of Iowa residence hall (a single room with linen service and meals at a residence hall cafeteria);
  *   Readings, university resources, and presentations from leaders in gifted education;
  * A wonderful opportunity to learn and enjoy time with colleagues from a wide variety of places.
  * Participants are invited to come to campus on Sunday, June 19, for a program orientation.
Participants' districts are asked to pay a $250 materials fee for books and readings; as well, districts are asked to encourage participants to participate in state conferences in gifted education.
Participants are responsible for their transportation to Iowa City, and for parking expenses if they park on campus. Participants may enroll in two graduate-level credit hours; those who choose this credit option will receive an automatic tuition scholarship; they pay only 50% of the graduate-level tuition!
All information about the Fellowship program is available online at http://www.education.uiowa.edu/belinblank/Educators/Fellowship/Default.aspx. You can find a brochure at that page to download and share.
All applications will be accepted online. Each participant must have a school administrator submit a letter of support online.
Note that this experience is designed for those with little or no previous background in gifted education-this is a GREAT way to encourage a colleague in your building to join you in your support for programs such as IOAPA!
The deadline to apply for the Fellowship program is March 7. Twelve (12) applicants will be notified by e-mail of their acceptance to the program.
Please share this invitation with classroom teachers who would be good allies, and with other school districts in your area!
Best wishes,
Laurie Croft
