Below is a link to and excerpt from a story that appeared in the Blended by Design blog of Education week this week. The study and article paint a bit of a mixed bag--more students are signing up for AP courses but slightly fewer schools are offering them. Performance doesn't seem to be falling with expanded access, but anecdotal accounts suggest less-prepared students in schools that are new to the program may still be struggling. On the whole, the story seems to be good news but there is still a long way to go on equity of preparation and access.

Despite Growth, AP Pool Is Not Diluted, Studies Say
But debate continues over why race gaps in participation persist

While public school students' participation in the Advanced Placement program has shot up over the past two decades, the academic caliber of the course-takers does not appear to have been "watered down," according to new research from the American Enterprise Institute, a right-leaning think tank in Washington.
