Just a reminder/update-
With all of the conversations about testing, which tests folks use, and
possibly changing tests/ practices in districts... the OAGC Coordinator
Division's Coordinator Conference on Dec. 5th is a whole day on the topic
of testing. We will have test vendors there to answer questions and share
updates in their materials throughout the day, we have updates on ACT
Aspire, SAT/College Board, updates on state testing, ethics of testing and
considerations when choosing tests for specific populations, the list goes
on and on, but the entire day is devoted to assessment tools and
practices. We have 15-16 different presenters, all with unique topics
about testing. Many gifted coordinators are asking their Testing
Coordinators to come with them for the day, as well.

In all my districts we also encourage referrals from staff and parents.
I am in the process of meeting with my superintendents to look at changes
to the tests we give, the grades we test and the time of year that we
test.

I am interested in hearing when whole-grade screenings are taking place
in districts. I have been asked by my ESC member districts to do a study
and make recommendations. It seems like a lot of districts whole-grade
screen at the end of 2nd or 3rd. With the Gifted inputs points being
heavily weighted in the K-3 grade band, I'm curious if districts are
looking to shift to an earlier grade level. If so, what grade and what
instruments will be used.
Any and all information is welcomed. I will share the any compiled data.

It is not a requirement yet; however, when the new operating standards are
in place there will be requirements for whole grade screening. Some
districts may be choosing to go ahead now to pull up their gifted input
scores.

This has never been an issue before, but I have a district this year that
wants to administer achievement screeners at two grade levels instead of
achievement at one grade level(s) and ability at other grade level(sf).
