 Friends:

Nationally syndicated columnist Marilyn vos Savant, writing in today's Parade magazine, the Sunday newspaper supplement, wrote some disturbing comments about gifted children and their service. You can read her comments here:

 http://parade.condenast.com/350739/marilynvossavant/do-gifted-children-need-special-support-plus-a-dandy-logic-puzzle/

The gist of her comments: "... people advocating for gifted children would be wiser to focus on how society would greatly benefit from taking better advantage of their strengths and not to suggest that we should feel sorry for smart kids. Needy and disadvantaged, they’re not."

I'm (somewhat) surprised that someone of her purported intelligence would harbor such occluded thoughts. She's described as one of the world's smartest people (Guinness says she was the No. 1 brainiac), and is married to Robert Jarvik, the inventor of the artificial heart named after him. More on her is here:

Perhaps she needs to be brought up to speed for her misinformed stance on gifted children.

Best wishes,
Art Snyder
