Greetings from the Belin-Blank Center where we are hard at work on the update to A Nation Deceived, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last week!!! Below is an email explaining how you can be involved in the update (working title is Nation Empowered) and inviting you to participate in a survey. Your responses will be especially helpful. Please feel free to forward to other educators or psychologists who may not be part of this listserv.

Thank you, Susan Assouline, Belin-Blank Center Director

You are invited to participate in a brief survey about your attitudes toward and knowledge of acceleration and preparedness to provide gifted education. You do not need to have classroom experience with either of these to provide your voice and participate in this study.

Following A Nation Deceived: How Schools Hold Back America's Brightest Students, the emphasis on gifted education has increased significantly over the past decade. However, the questions of whether educator training and preparedness have changed remain unanswered.

As a preservice teacher or working school professional, I am inviting you to complete the brief survey below (link provided) assessing the ways in which you have been prepared to teach gifted learners. This survey, which takes 10-15 minutes to complete, is also intended to gather information about the breadth and depth of knowledge regarding the practice of academic acceleration and its varying forms.

The purpose of this study is to examine the beliefs and knowledge of those educating America's students in both general and gifted environments surrounding gifted education and acceleration. As you are working directly with students, your voice will help to provide a unique and powerful view from the front lines regarding how you are educated about and prepared to deliver acceleration practices and gifted education, as well as what barriers you see to implementation of these practices in your school district. This study also aims to explore your knowledge of and familiarity with different types of acceleration and the potential perceived barriers to their implementation.

Thank you for your consideration.
