Purpose & Duties of STEM Education Advocates

 

*         Recruit and mentor teachers & students.

*         Participate in Believe in Ohio program orientation and training
programs.

*         If qualified, work with & assess teachers who participate in
Believe in Ohio's Graduate Credit Professional Development programs.

*         Help recruit, coordinate & orient real-world student mentors.

*         Represent and promote the Believe in Ohio program at The Ohio
Academy Science's 16 District Science days and other regional events.

*         Serve as an instructor of record for one or more blended learning,
virtual "Introduction to the Innovation Economy of Ohio" online classes for
students who wish to participate other than through their own school.

*         If selected as a Managing Regional Advocate, accept additional
stipend to manage regional STEM Commercialization and Business Plan
competition and judging in March 2015. Otherwise assist the Managing
Regional Advocate for this task.

*         Assist with the State competition in April 2015 to award $2
million in awards and scholarships.

 

STEM Advocate Qualifications:

 

*         Ideally should have a Master's or higher degree in a STEM
discipline sufficient to qualify applicant as an university adjunct.

*         Have meaningful STEM education experience in high school, career
technical, middle school, college/university or business training.

*         Ideally should have meaningful real-world STEM research or STEM
related business experience or at least have developed a significant
understanding of today's emerging STEM disciplines and applied,
interdisciplinary fields.

 

STEM Advocate Compensation:

*         Incentive-based, $14,100 - $32,400 including travel reimbursement.
