Advocacy

Gifted Operating Standards

The gifted operating standards are still on hold as the ethics committee reviews
at least one state board member's ability to vote on the standards due to a
potential conflict of interest. In addition, the Ohio Attorney General's office
has not provided the state board with any guidance on what the impact of the
governor's veto has on the operating standards.

Gifted Performance Indicator

The state board accountability committee has begun work on the gifted
performance indicator. Both ODE staff as well as OAGC presented to the state
board in February. For more information, please go to
[3]www.oagc.com/?q=advocacyupdates.

Other Legislation

Several other bills are moving through the legislature that merit tracking. SB
229 would change the teacher evaluation system to limit the impact of
value-added measures on a teacher's evaluation from 50% to 35%. Teachers rated
more highly would not be evaluated each year. This bill has passed the Senate.
HB193 makes several changes to high school graduation requirements, many of them
favorable to gifted students. A link to some of these changes is [4]here. This
bill will now be debated in the Ohio Senate.
