Never used "replied all" before but I think this merits to do so. I just got off the phone with Dave at the governor’s office (he was the supervisor of the first person that answer the phone after being transferred). He indicated that Mr. Jones must be doing a great job because I was the only person that has ever called to complain about him. He also said that Ohio is a ‘home-rule’ state so that if I have an issue then deal at the local level or move!. He was very clear that the governor thinks that local school districts should be able to use the money as they please and that the governor will not do or change anything about that. That I cannot request a change of policy just because my ‘little daughters’ are not happy at school.

He was hostile, condescending, and interrupting every other sentence. He was not even willing to listen to what my concern was before jumping to interrupting, arguing and combating every other statement I made. He also said that there was no mechanism for an appointment member to be remover, nor that the governor would be interested on doing so. Also, he said that it was against the law to influence an appointed board member. Then accuse me to ask the governor to break the law….just because my daughters are not getting what they need. Finally, he said that only ODE could response to what the bill actually says or not and was not his place to understand how the money was to be spent.

I worked in a previous governor’s office before. I could not believe that somebody would be so negative and aggressive against a constituent and not even listen to the concern. If one of the communications staff of the governor feels so comfortable to be combative, condescending and dismissive of a constituent call that tells me a lot about the positions of this governor and makes me regret my vote.

So here you have it….they have not heard from us. If you decide to call, and I hope you do, you should ask for Dave to make sure he is hearing us. But be prepare for the most hostile constituent call you may have ever made.

I have been asked to provide an email address as well. The best I can do is a link to the Governor's page contact info. Hope this helps and thanks for the suggestion Petra.

Gifted Advocates,

About ten years ago I used to speak with seniors at our local high school about the importance of voting so their voice and issues could be heard. I said, " If you are tired of paying higher car insurance than everyone else, low wages, high tuition, etc then you need to vote" Today, I am asking you to let your voice be heard. Gifted students for some reason seem to be the "political hot bed" choice this year. We should not stand for this. Last week I made a call to the Governor's office asking for C. Todd Jones to be removed from the board. My concern is that several drafts have been proposed yet he refuses to take them seriously and allow them to be presented to the full board. He wants his draft which is not friendly to the gifted community nor in the best interest of our children/students. Most aren't even sure they will past JCARR (the checkpoint for meeting Ohio Revised Code). To her credit Mrs. Terhar , the OSB president, whom I spoke with last week is asking the Attorney General's office to give her and the Ohio School Board clarification on the "intent" of the recent budget stating the funding for gifted is to be used for identification, gifted intervention specialist and gifted coordinators. I believe it is time to put some pressure on the Governor's office to have his appointee removed from the board instead of allowing him to protecting his personal interest. I have concerns about his ability to vote as a board member and lobby for private colleges. I understand this is not illegal, but to me seems unethical. I certainly hope our Governor is concerned about ethics as well as the law. Please let him know you feel this way too by calling.

Please let your voice be heard! Gifted students are counting on you!
