[Ohiogift] [Oagccoordinator] Which screening tools do you recommend for GT identification? (used CogAT this year)

Hi, Denise. The first thing is to make sure she is using the most recent version of CogAT. Once a test is taken off the ODE list, it is not permitted to be used anymore. This happens because the norms are out of date, and often the test items lose some relevance (ie. the outdated pictures/awkward wording, etc.). If this is a private school not bound by ODE's list, I still advise them to replace any outdated versions with new versions simply because the test loses some technical merit. For group, there are really three big ones - CogAT 7 (Riverside), OLSAT 8 (Pearson), and InView (McGraw Hill). All three test similar skills, although I believe CogAT and Inview have specific subtest sessions, while OLSAT tests multiple areas of cognition in one lump test. As a result, OLSAT takes less time than the others. But, they all have their merits, so it really becomes more about utility and personal preference.

Some of the teachers came to me with concerns about outdated pictures, awkward wording, etc. and wondered if I knew of any other group cognitive assessments available. I did some Googling and found a few, including an ODE approved list, but want to reach out to you all. I'd like to be able to provide more than just names and prices when I talk to administration.
