[Ohiogift] Gov's budget blue book is out

"ADM" stands for "Average Daily Membership." ADM is the number that is most commonly used to allocate "per pupil" funds. Basically, ADM is an average of the number of students who are either in attendance or who have excused absences each day of the two "count weeks" in the spring and fall.

(Think of this as being the school equivalent of the "Sweeps Weeks" in the old days of TV when there would be a couple of weeks a year when Nielsen would sample viewers to calculate "ratings" for each show that would then determine how much advertisers would pay to run commercials when those shows aired for the rest of the season.)

So, the general idea would be that a district that has an average of 1,000 kids show up each day during the count weeks would receive $50,000 to spend on gifted services. But bear in mind that allocation formulas rarely wind up being that simple at the far end of the budget process...

In the news releases, $50 per ADM was mentioned for gifted. What does that really mean in plain language? ADM is average daily??

Hi everyone,

Thank you for all your questions. Unfortunately, I do not have many answers right now. Until we actually see the budget bill language, and district spread sheets it is difficult to know more than $85 million is included for gifted in a program code in the foundation funding line item. Is it equalized; is there accountability attached, is it more than you received last year? There are simply no answers to that at the moment.

The budget process is a long one, and I will keep you all informed.

Ann
