The Belin-Blank Center would like to invite you to a Webinar<http://www.education.uiowa.edu/belinblank/educators/Webinar/cogat.aspx>:

January 31 (Thursday),

4:30 - 6:30 p.m., Central Time<http://www.worldtimezone.com/>.

with Dr. David Lohman<http://www.education.uiowa.edu/belinblank/educators/Webinar/cogat.aspx>, Professor, CogAT author
This is an opportunity to learn more about the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), and how educators might use the CogAT to identify students who would benefit from greater academic challenge. Riverside Publishing has recently released the new CogAT Form 7, specifically adapted to provide a screening form<http://www.riversidepublishing.com/products/cogAT7/screening.html> for a "fast but reliable and valid data point when determining eligibility for a Gifted and Talented program" (Riverside Publishing, CogAT).
Title:              Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT)

Description: The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is a K-12 group-administered instrument designed to assess students' abilities in reasoning and problem solving using verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal symbols. The Webinar will provide an opportunity to explore the use of the CogAT (new Form 7) for the identification of gifted students, including traditionally underrepresented students. Participation will provide opportunities to better understand identification issues in general, and the benefits of including the CogAT as one option among multiple measures, in particular.

Presenter: Dr. David Lohman<http://www.education.uiowa.edu/belinblank/educators/Webinar/cogat.aspx>, Professor, Psychological and Quantitative Foundations, College of Education, University of Iowa
Date/Time:    Thursday, January 31, 2013; 4:30-6:30 p.m. (Central Time<http://www.worldtimezone.com/>)

You are registering a computer;
there is no additional cost for the additional colleagues who join you ;-)

Academic Credit: The Belin-Blank Center is offering an academic credit associated with this Webinar<http://www.education.uiowa.edu/belinblank/educators/webinar/cogat.aspx>. In addition to learning from the Webinar itself, if you register for the academic credit (a link is available on the page above, or contact me directly for a paper credit registration form), you'll use ICON, the Iowa Courses Online format, to review and discuss additional readings and design a project that makes sense for you in your setting, based on your experience and interests. This is a great opportunity to learn more identification, including the use of the CogAT as one useful instrument; the credit provides an automatic tuition scholarship (50% of the current graduate tuition charge). You can enroll in the credit whether you participate "live" in the Webinar or select the DVD option. The credit applies to the Iowa gifted and talented endorsement in the Psychology strand. This is an important topic in our field-I hope you can join us!
