Hello all MWBWG Members and Associates:  An official vote was executed by the MWBWG Board of Directors last Friday, May 13, 2020.  It was the unanimous decision of the Board to officially cancel the Annual Meeting scheduled for April 6-7, 2020 in Jefferson City, Missouri.  This is extremely unfortunate and disappointing on many levels, but the sole reason for this cancellation is health concerns over the COVID-19 virus.  Our primary concern is the health and safety of all of our members, their families, coworkers, and friends.  On behalf of the entire MWBWG Board of Directors, I offer my most sincere apologies to everyone affected and any inconvenience this may cause.

It is important to note that all those who have registered for the conference WILL receive a full refund for registration fees.  It is however up to each individual to cancel their hotel reservations as soon as possible to avoid any potential fees.  The conference hotel (Fairfield Inn of Jefferson City: 573-761-0400) requires 48 hours advance notice to receive a refund for cancellation of reservations.  Please be aware that ONLY conference registration fees will be refunded – not MWBWG annual membership dues.  If you wish to retain your voting status as a paid member of MWBWG and have yet to pay your 2020 annual membership dues, please visit the MWBWG website soon and click ONLINE PAYMENT.  You will then have the option to choose either Regular or Student membership.  Again, if you wish to vote this year, you must be a paid member.

We kindly ask that you please be patient in that we are working through the financial process and determining the most efficient manner in which to make sure everyone is reimbursed properly.  All members will be notified via email with instructions in order to receive their reimbursements – both for registration costs and any t-shirt orders that were placed.  All checks from vendors have NOT been cashed and will be shredded.  If vendors have any questions, please email Brianne Walters directly at: Brianne.Walters at indstate.edu<mailto:Brianne.Walters at indstate.edu>  and she will be happy to provide assistance.

Given the logistics to properly plan a conference, it will not be possible to reschedule this event in 2020.  We will look towards 2021 and explore the possibility of combining presentations planned for this year with new presentations prepared for 2021.  A location for the 2021 meeting will be discussed later this year.
As a reminder, I would like to urge all paid MWBWG members to please vote for Board of Director positions.  In order for MWBWG to continue both its conservation mission and expand its base, it is crucial that everyone review this year’s nominees and choose those candidates they feel best represent the group as a whole.  Truly, the foundation and success of any professional organization cannot remain in the hands of the same individuals over and over.  We are all tremendously busy with our professional careers, but the work must be shared and evenly distributed, otherwise institutional “burnout” is inevitable.
Ø  Voting is open to all paid members and must be completed by midnight EST on April 4, 2020. For the first time, voting will be through Easypolls (see link below). Please choose seven board members and one student member by checking the box then hit vote once you are finished. You can only vote once.
Ø  In 2020, we will be electing a student member of the Board to fill the position of Maria Monarchino, whose 2-year term expires. In addition, the terms as regular members of the Board are expiring for: Catton, Heeringa, Johnson, Karsk, Kurta, Powers, and Tichenell, so we need to fill these seven positions as well.
Ø  In 2020, the five regular members receiving the most votes will be elected to a full 2-year term, whereas the 6th and 7th place nominees will serve a 1-year term.
