On behalf of Bridget Brown:

Hello everyone,

The Research Committee for the Ohio Bat Conservation Plan is working to organize a Bat Blitz for 2020. The Bat Blitz will be from August 28th to August 30th at Germantown Metroparks in Montgomery County and surrounding areas. We are really excited to have this event this year, but it is not possible without your participation. The committee has come up with a few questions that we need to ask to continue to plan for the Bat Blitz, and we have created a Google spreadsheet to collect this information from participants. The link for the spreadsheet can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lX3J7gdCmMrhz-oOMDNWDYc3LFRiSPuVP4mpVflW8oc/edit?usp=sharing<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https*3A*2F*2Furldefense.com*2Fv3*2F__https*3A*2F*2Fdocs.google.com*2Fspreadsheets*2Fd*2F1lX3J7gdCmMrhz-oOMDNWDYc3LFRiSPuVP4mpVflW8oc*2Fedit*3Fusp*3Dsharing__*3B!!KGKeukY!lE7JuFLoTVdkNKkhnZaMhZP1J05fcS3lCsqmW1mnxlAW0BMmJhkoceJ4-P6_RXlKmKulK_1tJsMDCco*24&data=02*7C01*7CSarah.Stankavich*40dnr.state.oh.us*7C9c7f604f70a6489a84d808d7b57d2de3*7C50f8fcc494d84f0784eb36ed57c7c8a2*7C0*7C0*7C637177421553986433&sdata=1yPpGQ9VfPR3pQ*2FEIGh*2Fz*2F*2B3x*2F9hUHQsZm7zHdsM0SU*3D&reserved=0__;JSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUlJSUl!!KGKeukY!j4J-t4PfBUfoUJEoJ151_ePhG7gaxI1R80zTc4EeOCbekk72CSj1509kLjdam_k_5LOTv-wHvvOzf8g$>. If you have questions about any of the fields, please see the descriptions below:

First, before we can plan any sites, we need to know how many people would be interested in being site leaders. Site leaders must have their state and federal permits. Site leaders are responsible for making sure that protocols are followed at each netting site and for recording information about all of the bats that are captured. These people will be in charge of a small group each night. In addition to site leaders, we need to have people that can assist at the nets. This can include people that have their full rabies vaccine series and are trained to extract bats from nets, as well as people that do not have their rabies vaccine and can assist with taking notes about captured bats on site.

There is also a column asking if you have your rabies vaccine and when your last titer check was. If you need to get your titer checked, you can do so through your family doctor and/or at a Labcorp in the area. A word of advice, that a script from your doctor using test code 083885 can significantly reduce the cost of a titer check. If you end up needing a booster, you can reach out to the local health department, Kroger, Walgreens, or CVS to see if they have boosters available. Remember, you can still participate without a rabies vaccine, but we need to have this information for Health and Safety purposes.

Finally, there is a column to indicate if you are willing to lend any equipment to be used at the Bat Blitz. This can include but is not limited to, mist nets and accompanying poles, acoustic detectors, decontamination equipment, equipment for processing bats (calipers, scales, etc.), and equipment for tracking bats. If you indicate that you would be willing to lend equipment for the event, we will reach out to you to determine what equipment you can specifically offer.
