Monitoring Florida Bonneted Bats - University of Illinois
Position description:  The University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign is hiring a technician for a 12-month position beginning in late January 2021 to monitor bat boxes installed for endangered Florida Bonneted Bats near Punta Gorda, Florida. The project is designed to assess bat preferences for box design and the effectiveness of an acoustic lure for drawing bats to boxes. The technician will spotlight check bat boxes and conduct emergence counts, deploy and retrieve acoustic equipment and camera traps, and review camera trap photos. The technician will mainly work solo, reporting to the PI on a weekly basis, but will have the chance to collaborate with staff from Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on occasion.
Position details:  Location is Punta Gorda, FL; Pay is $16/hour; Field truck and laptop will be provided; Housing is not provided; Optimal start date is 19–25 January 2021
Qualifications:  Must have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, enjoy working alone and in a remote location, have excellent communication skills, and be in good physical condition. It is also critical that you are detail oriented and interested in collecting data for research. Must possess a valid driver's license and pass driving record check.
