[OHIOBWG] Ohio Bat Conservation Plan Committees

Hello Ohio Bat Working Group Members,

For those of you that were in attendance at our recent annual meeting, we spend some agenda time discussing the Ohio Bat Conservation Plan and the Ohio Bat Working Group's role in facilitating work towards the plan's goals and objectives.

It is divided into 3 sections, each with listed goals and objectives related to bat conservation in Ohio. Currently, there are committees forming to address work towards the outlined goals in each of the 3 sections. Several of you signed up to be on a committee at the meeting. If you missed signing up, please consider doing so. Also, if you weren't at the meeting, here is your chance. :)

We don't yet know the level of commitment needed to move forward with implementing the conservation plan, however we do know that the first step is getting a group of interested people in the same room. So at this point, consider signing up if you are even just a little interested in getting involved.

Research - focus is on outlining goals for research and monitoring efforts in Ohio
Habitat Management - goals revolve around guiding management decisions to support improved bat habitat in the future
Outreach and Education - goals work towards providing resources for informal and formal educators with the goal of raising public knowledge and awareness of bats. There are plans to hold an Ohio Bat Blitz in the next year or so, which is likely what this committee will focus on first.
